Norman Wray Snider was born on 30 July 1898 in Rat Portage (Kenora), Ontario. His parents were merchant John Henry Snider and Mary Ellen Dulmadge. Siblings included Florence May (1890-1976), Pearl (1892- ?), Albert (1895-1898) and Fern(1905-1990).
Norman was attending the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Toronto when he enlisted with the Canadian Army Dental Corps. He signed his attestation papers on 22 June 1917. Norman served in Canada until his discharge, due to demobilization, on 30 April 1919. He completed his schooling and graduated in 1920 returning to Kenora.
His mother, Mary Ellen, had passed away on 14 September 1918 and his father remarried Ellen Denike in 1921. The 1921 Canadian Census shows Norman living with his father and step-mother at 300 Matheson St. in Kenora.
On 13 October 1925, Norman married Norah Marguerite Keats in Winnipeg, Manitoba. They settled on Main St. S. in Kenora and Dr. Norman Snider had a dental practice.
With the start of WW2, Norman enlisted once again. In 1939 he went overseas with the Royal Canadian Dental Corps and served for six years in England, Italy and Africa.
After the war, Norman practiced Dentistry under the Department of Veteran Affairs at Deer Lodge Hospital in Winnipeg and he and Nora lived on Belvidere St. He retired in 1963 and by 1965 was again living in Kenora, Ontario.
Norman died on 08 May, 1967 in Deer Lodge Hospital, Winnipeg, Manitoba. He is buried in Lake of the Woods Cemetery in Kenora. Nora passed away in 1993 and is interred beside Norman.
Norman is commemorated on the University of Toronto Roll of Service 1914-1918.
