Kenora Great War Project

Husbands, Sons, & Sweethearts

From August 1 – November 15, 2014, the exhibit Husbands, Sons, & Sweethearts, produced by the Lake of the Woods Museum and its partners, the Ancestor Seekers of Kenora and the Kenora Public Library, was displayed at the Lake of the Woods Museum in Kenora, Ontario to mark the 100th anniversary of the start of World War I.

The significant battles fought by Canadians during the war provided the framework for the exhibit which was localized by highlighting some of the stories of our local men and women who participated. Further context for those stories was presented through informational side-bars.

Photographs and artifacts, from the Museum’s collection and borrowed from community members, were featured, as was reproduction equipment so that visitors could try on a soldier’s kit or helmet.

Another element of the exhibit was an audio-visual presentation of letters that were written home to family and friends by our Kenora lads who were stationed overseas. Listen to these under Letters Home.

Here, we present to you a virtual representation of that exhibit.
