Beatty, George Thomas

George Thomas Beatty was born on 03 August 1898 in Beamsville, Lincoln, Ontario.   He was the only son of George Alexander Beatty and Jennie R. Box.    He had two older sisters, Rhea and Lena.   A brother, Frank, died at age 18 months. The family was living in Beamsville in 1901 where George Sr. was employed as a clerk.   By 1911 the family moved to Kenora, Ontario and George Sr. worked in a clothing store.

At age 18, George Thomas enlisted with the Royal Air Force in Winnipeg, Manitoba on 03 October 1918.   He went to Toronto and was discharged on 07 January 1919 as being surplus to RAF requirements and having suffered impairment since entry into the service. His Legion membership application indicates that George was a mechanic while in the RAF.

On 26 September, 1923 George married Marjorie Ann Ferguson in Kenora.   His occupation at the time was ‘mechanic’.   They had one daughter, Phyllis.

George Thomas joined his father’s retail shoe business in the Main Street Beatty Block.   He later managed the family’s real estate interests.

George Thomas Beatty died on 16 October 1994 in Kenora, Ontario and is buried in Lake of the Woods Cemetery with his parents, wife and sister, Rhea.
