George William Everard was born Sat. 22 Sept .1894, Bromborough, Cheshire, England. His father George William Everard was born on Fri. 21 July 1871, Stoneton, Cheshire, England. His mother Mary Ellen Dawber was born in 1868, Liverpool, Wigan, England. They were married summer of 1890, Liverpool, Wigon, England. George’s Christening date was on Sun. 9 Dec. 1894. They also lived at 8 Apple Grove, Higher Tranmere, Cheshire, Birkenhead, Wirral, Bebington. When George was 16 years old and single he worked as an apprentice boilermaker. He had two older sisters Jenny and May, five younger sisters Edith, twins Elsie and Amy, Maud, Lilian and one brother Eric.
When George’s parents and some of his siblings immigrated to Manitoba, Canada, April 1914, George at 20 years old stayed to enlist in W.W.1 with The Royal Engineers, as #446047, Sapper#340. He served in France and earned three medals -The Victory, The British, and The 1915 Star. George’s mother taught his brother, Eric, to knit the tops of socks, then she would knit on the feet so she could send them to George in the war. He was discharged May 20, 1919.
George married Sarah Ellen Jones in the summer of 1914, Cheshire, England. They had three sons George, William, John and one daughter Marjorie. George and his wife immigrated to Canada, 1920, to join his family. They lived in Shergrove, Manitoba. George was employed by the CPR in Winnipeg, Manitoba as a boilermaker for 35 years retiring in Keewatin, Ontario in 1956. The year before he had taken his brother Eric to visit in Keewatin. When Eric retuned home to Wolseley, Sask., he moved with his family to Keewatin in July 1955. They purchased the Hi-Way Grocery store.
George was a tall handsome gentleman with dark wavy hair. He had very good penmanship and wrote with green ink. He was a helpful neighbour giving people rides in his pink car. He also visited his family and friends.
George died Mon. 7 Apr. 1969 at 74 years old. He is interred with the WW1 Veterans in The Lake of The Woods Cemetery, Kenora, Ontario.
