Walter and William Seth enlisted together in Kenora, Ontario on 28 September 1916. They said they were born in Cutler, Ontario, a community on the North Channel of Lake Huron. For next of kin they named Mr. Iram Sawba of Cutler, although he was not a relative. Walter gave his birth date as 22 March 1889 and William as 30 November 1891. They said they were single and their parents were deceased.
Walter and William joined the 141st “Bull Moose” Battalion, which was being recruited in northwestern Ontario. On 18 October 1916 both men went absent without leave. They were struck off strength as deserters on 22 November in Port Arthur, Ontario.
Walter and William are commemorated on the Aboriginal Veterans Tribute Honour list online, which records them as Ojibway. Nothing further is known about these two men at this time.
