Collier, Edward Carlos

According to his service record, Edward Carlos Collier was born on 10 May 1894 in Geneva, Switzerland. Living in Kenora, Ontario and working as a bank clerk, he signed his attestation papers in Winnipeg, Manitoba on 7 April 1916 with the 203rd Battalion. He gave his uncle Albert Brondell in Plum Coulee, Manitoba as next of kin. Edward’s service was to be short lived as he was struck off strength as a deserter on April 25th.

The next record found for Edward was a US Draft Registration card dated 5 June 1917 in St Cloud, Minnesota. Edward’s date of birth was given as 10 May 1893 in Geneva, his previous address as Plum Coulee in Manitoba, and his surname spelled as Colliere as it would be for most records found. At the time Edward was an inmate in the Minnesota State Reformatory in St Cloud. His incarceration couldn’t have been very long as on 11 October 1918, in Kansas City, Missouri, Edward married Vera Geraghty. Born in Minnesota, a 1918 US Directory for Minneapolis had a Vera Geraghty, pianist, listed for the city. The 1920 US census found Edward and Vera living in Kansas City with Edward working as a portrait artist. In April of 1942 when Edward signed his WW2 Draft Registration card, he and Vera were living at 4026 Clarendon Avenue in Chicago, Illinois. His date and place of birth was given as 10 May 1892 in Basil, Switzerland. No occupation was given on the card. It is unknown if the couple had any children.

Edward died on 6 January 1961 in Chicago, Vera listed as his next of kin on his death record, date of birth given as 10 May 1892, and surname spelled as Collier. His occupation at the time was given as hotel clerk. Edward is interred in the Graceland Cemetery in Chicago. A death record was not found for Vera.
