According to his later obituary, John Kinger was born on 26 January 1898 in Poland and served with the Russian Cavalry during WW1. In February of 1920, in Poland, he married Aklunia (aka Akulina) Skibinski. The couple eventually immigrated to Canada, settling on the Redditt Road, Kenora, Ontario. John found work as a millhand with the Ontario Minnesota Pulp and Paper Company, working from June 1941 to September 1963.
John died on 23 January 1971 at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital in Kenora. At the time of his death he was survived by his wife Aklunia, sons Adam (Kenora), Antoni (Keewatin), Peter (Kenora), Joseph (home), and Stanley (Redmond, Washington), and daughters Anne (Walter) Bodnarchuk (Kenora), Antonia (Ernest) Freeman (Kenora), and Mary (home). He was also survived by fifteen grandchildren. Akulina later died in 1992 and along with John is interred in the Lake of the Woods Cemetery in Kenora.
