Taylor, William

Private William Taylor was born in 1888 in Echt, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. He was living in northwestern Ontario when he was conscripted in the fall of 1917. He had his army medical on 12 November in Kenora, giving his address as the neighbouring town of Keewatin. His occupation was labourer, he was single and next of kin was his sister Mary Taylor at St. Mary’s Lochs, Selkirkshire, Scotland. William gave his birth date as 2 March 1888.

William was called up on 14 January 1918 in Port Arthur and assigned to the 1st Depot Battalion, Manitoba Regiment. On 6 April he was transferred to “A” Company of the Manitoba Special Service Unit. That unit was absorbed by the 5th Canadian Garrison Regiment and William was sent to Quebec. He was discharged from service on 24 July 1919 in Quebec City.

So far nothing more has been found about William. A family tree on Ancestry.com records his death as 9 September 1965 in Essondale, British Columbia. The death registration for that William Taylor lists a birth date of 22 March 1888 in Scotland. It has no other identifying information and we haven’t been able to confirm it is the same person.
