Yaremko, Paul

Paul Yaremko was born on 31 October 1901 in Radichow, Ukraine. According to his retirement announcement, he served in the Ukrainian Army from 1918-1919 and in the Polish Army from 1922-1924, service unconfirmed. On 26 February 1927, in Radichow, Paul married Phyllis Dybaylo, immigrating to Canada that year. He began service with the Canadian Pacific Railway on 1 June 1927 as a sectionman in Oxdrift, Ontario and worked in various Kenora District locations until stationed in Kenora in 1954, retiring in 1966. Paul and Phyllis had two known children, Ann and Mike.

Paul died on 19 August 1968 at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital in Kenora. At the time of his death he was survived by his wife Phyllis, daughter Ann (Kris) Finnsson of Kenora and son Mike of Oakville, Ontario as well as brother Peter in the Ukraine, sister Tessie Jerome of Long Island, New York and five grandchildren. Phyllis later died in 1986 at Saint Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg. Paul and Phyllis are interred in the Saint Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Parish Cemetery in Kenora.
